As per the study done by the WHO in 1980, it was found out that de-mineralized water or low content mineral water is not best suited for regular consumption. It can result in a deficiency of certain major minerals.
The study clearly states that consuming water deficient in magnesium or calcium will lead to various health consequences like the high risk of getting Cardio Vascular Diseases.
In addition, the research proved that drinking water that is low in magnesium is commonly associated with the high risk of neuronal motor diseases, sudden death in infants, pregnancy disorders, and certain types of cancer.
Plus, consuming water low in calcium will lead to a high risk of bone fracture among kids, low weight at birth, and premature birth.
So, Should One Stop Using RO Purifiers
As per the various studies, it might be frightening, and you would be thinking of avoiding the usage of RO purifiers now. However, this is not the correct solution right now.
If you stop using the RO purifier, you are subjecting yourself to the risk of various life-threatening diseases caused by various water impurities. Frankly, no water purification solution is as effective as the RO purification one.
Method To Remineralize RO Water
Now, if you are having a RO water purifier (which is without mineralizer cartridge) and the TDS level of the purified water is somewhere below 50 mg/L or 50 ppm, then you can easily add some extra mineralizer cartridge after the post-carbon filter or UV.
All this is just before the water is filled into the storage tank. You can do it by yourself, or you can get this done by a professional.
Here the mineralizer cartridge would add important minerals like magnesium, calcium, potassium, and sodium to the purified water. This will easily make the water alkaline by increasing the pH value.
Most importantly, you can purchase special water bottles known as alkaline water bottles. These will increase the water’s pH value, but it will also put in the necessary minerals into the water.
Furthermore, if you are planning on purchasing a brand new RO water purifier, look out for the RO purifier having a TDS controller or mineralizer or the modulator feature.
Here, it is necessary if the TDS level of the untreated or raw mater is below 900 mg/L or 900 ppm as most of the RO purifiers will be able to remove up to 90-99% of the TDS.
Various brands like Livpure, Kent, Havelles, and AO Smith will provide RO purifiers using the TDS controller or modulator or the mineralizer cartridge.
