What Is A Water Heater?
As the name suggests, a water heater does the function that it needs to do. Yes, it heats the water. And the best part is that you can use this warm water for your shower, cooking, and cleaning, and even washing your hands.
Now the water heater would take the cold water and then convert this from the water supply pipe to warm it up.
Types Of Water Heater
There are two major kinds of water heaters. One is the conventional water heater, and another one is a tankless water heater. However, there are other major types of water heaters used in various households.
The conventional water heaters have a great tank, and it is where the water is stored and heated. This one uses either electricity or gas. Fresh and cold water would enter the bottom of the tank. This is heated to a specific temperature, and there, it would remain ready for usage.
Tankless water heaters are also called ‘on-demand’ water heaters. These water heaters would heat water very quickly, thereby making up for not having any hot water stored. Most importantly, they would need less space.
● Hybrid or Heat Pump
A heat pump or hybrid water heater is the most energy-efficient compared to other heaters. They would be using the heat from the air or ground. However, keep in mind that such water heater types are a poor selection when residing in a cold space.
●Solar Water Heater
In these solar heaters, one would be using thermal panels that won’t be producing electricity. This would take the heat from the sun and transfer that to the water heater. Such water heaters are great to be used in sunnier and warmer regions.
Benefits Of Water Heater
● Water heaters are available in various sizes, along with tank options ranging from 20 to 70 gallons.
● These are less inexpensive to purchase and even install.
● They have an average energy factor (EF) rating of 0.67.
What Is Boiler?
Now the name would seem a bit misleading as the boiler won‘t just boil water. Rather, a boiler would turn water into steam. Also, boilers would be used not only for heating water, but it would heat your home and even generate power.
Types Of Boiler
The combination boilers would supply heat for your home and hot water. There is no cold-water tank or hot water cylinder, which means less space is needed. Also, it would supply unlimited hot water.
The system boilers won’t need any cold water tank. However, it would have a hot water cylinder. In this, the water would come directly from the main, and then it would be heated and stored in the cylinder.
Here the hot water capacity would be limited by its size, and among these, there are options, and if you run out, then you would need to wait until the cold water is heated and stored again.
A conventional boiler would be having both a cold water tank as well as a hot water cylinder. Now, this would take up a huge amount of space. Such water boilers would be suitable for bigger houses where they would be various taps that need to be opened at once.
The condensing boilers are not the usual kind of boilers. However, they are more of an attribute that a boiler would be having. Here, the condensing boilers are even more energy-efficient than other kinds of boilers. They would easily be able to retain the heat that escapes the flues.
Benefits Of Boilers
● Saving A Lot Of Energy
Boilers are a bit costly to install upfront compared to the furnaces. Sometimes that would be inconvenient for certain people. Of course, the initial cost would be more, but over time, that would cost less for running a boiler than the furnace.
● Durable And Long Lasting
Based on the nature of how the boiler would be working, it is constructed with fewer moving parts compared to the furnaces or even the heat pump system.
Here there would be forced-air systems that contain various motors and blower fans for operating. This would be a major mechanical moving component on the boiler and is just like the circulator pump.
● Requiring Less Maintenance And Repairs
Due to the lower number of moving parts, boilers would have more benefits. They take less time for proper maintenance, and they would end up with fewer repair issues than the heating systems.
Water Heater Vs Boiler
|Heating System||Heats water which can be used for cleaning and cooking||Uses steam and radiant heat|
|Spacing||Ideal for a small space||Takes a whole tub, complex, and pool.|
|Controls||Has simple controls||Complex pumps and controls|
|Way Of Operation||Runs of solar, electricity, and gas||Runs of natural gas, electricity, heating oil, propane, etc|
|Maintenance||Requires less maintenance||Needs huge maintenance|
Do You Need A Boiler Or Hot Water Heater?
Well, it all depends on your need and the place where you live. So, make sure that you make a great choice in the selection.
